How we ship plantsOPAL HOME PAGE
Up

All our terrestrial plants are exported in a sterile growing media which complies with the import regulations of all countries. The plants are free from diseases and pests and are certified to be so by a "Phyto Sanitary Certificate", issued by the Department of Agriculture of Thailand. Every shipment is accompanied by the following documentation: Invoice, Packing list, Phyto Sanitary Certificate and Certificate of Origin. If required, these documents can also be legalized by the embassies of the importing country. From Thailand we can ship plants only by air freight to destinations like USA, Canada, South America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Australia etc.. Sea freight, and where possible road/rail freight is only possible within South East Asia.

The plants are packed in wood reinforced cartons (for plants up to 130cm [4'3"] height) or in custom made wooden crates (for larger plants up to 300cm [9'10"] height). Plants are secured inside the cartons/crates with string to prevent them from shifting during transport.

Following are a few photos (thumbnails - please click on the image to view the full size photo) of some plants we frequently ship, being readied for packing:

A bit of history: over ten years ago our first large order for Bougainvilleas, the plants having just been delivered to our then newly opened nursery.

Please have a look at how we pack our plants.

Aquatic plants are usually shipped bare root. Since they have, and require a very high moisture content, they have to be packed in a cool room at about 15°C (59°F) to prevent rotting in transit. They are being shipped in Styrofoam boxes which are able to maintain the cool temperature for the duration of transit.

Small terrestrial plants (up to 130 cm [4'3"]) are being packed in cartons which are reinforced with a wooden frame to prevent damage if other heavy cargo is placed on top of the cartons. Our carton size is L150xW50xH35cm [4'11" x 1'8" x 1'2"]. The cartons are designed to hold a weight of up to 110 Kgs each.

Large plants, mostly trees and palms, of up to 300cm (9'10") are shipped in custom made wooden crates. The size limit is due to the airlines limitations for general cargo. Larger sizes may be possible by special arrangements with the airlines - at very high costs and only viable for large quantities.
